THD Doppler Procedure for Hemorrhoids
Hemorrhoids are blood vessels. When they enlarge and protrude, they often cause symptoms of rectal bleeding and pain
Transanal hemorrhoidal dearterialization (THD) is an effective treatment for hemorrhoidal disease. This involves the use of sound waves to identify the offending vessels before they are ligated with suture. Ligation (or suturing) of hemorrhoidal arteries (called “dearterialization”) results in significant reduction in the arterial flow to the hemorrhoidal blood vessels allowing them to shrink over time. The redundant hemorrhoidal tissue is then sutured repositioning the prolapsing component to its normal anatomical position.
The procedure is usually performed under general anesthesia with significant reduction in hemorrhoid-related symptoms over time.
