How do Colon and Rectal Surgeons differ from gastroenterologists ?
Colon and Rectal Surgeons receive specialized training.
Colorectal surgeons, also called colon and rectal surgeons or formerly proctologists, are physicians who specialize in the treatment of conditions that affect the colon and rectum. In addition to being well-trained General surgeons, they undergo extensive education and advanced training in the medical and surgical treatment of various colon and rectal conditions.
This makes them uniquely qualified to offer you the best treatment that is specifically tailored to you..
Dr. Tarazi is a Board Certified Colon and Rectal Surgeon who is specialized and experienced in the treatment of the following conditions:
- Hemorrhoids
- Anal warts or Anal Condyloma
- Anorectal abscess, anal fistula, and anal fissure disease.
- Colon and rectal polyps- colonoscopy
- Colorectal cancer (e.g., colon cancer, rectal cancer, anal cancer)
- Diverticular disease (e.g., diverticulitis)
- Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD; e.g., Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis)
- Rectal prolapse (rectocele, proctocele)
- Fecal Transplantation
Colorectal surgeons perform a number of screening and diagnostic tests, such as colonoscopy, and rigid and flexible sigmoidoscopy. They also perform surgical procedures, such as open and laparoscopic colorectal surgery (e.g., colon resection, colectomy) and ostomy (e.g., colostomy, ileostomy). Robotic surgery for colon pathology in its current format, while being used extensively, is best used in only select cases. No specific benefit has been shown in recent studies over laparoscopic procedures.
